Claydon direct strip seeding boosts worm popluations on Ayrshire estate

On his Maybole estate in Ayrshire, Lord David Kennedy used to plough the land most months of the year. After 10 years of using min-till, he moved to Claydon direct strip seeding in 2010.  Since then, he noticed soil health improve and an increase in the number of worm casts on the surface of fields. 

Lord David says “I read somewhere that the average 8" cube of soil contained nine earthworms and that made me wonder how many were in the soils at Morriston Farms. When I saw an article about the forthcoming 2019 World Worm Week I thought that taking part would be worthwhile.  Read more here:
